Sarah Payne

Sarah Payne qualified as a doctor from University College London in 1999. She made a decision to pursue a career in oncology having enjoyed clinical attachments in cancer medicine as an undergraduate and also as a senior house officer at Guys Hospital, London. Dr Payne passed her MRCP examinations and then successfully gained a training number in Medical Oncology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital London in 2003. She undertook a PhD during her training, which she completed at the Barts Cancer Institute on “Control of angiogenesis in DCIS: the role of an altered myoepithelial cell phenotype”.

 

Dr Payne has now returned to clinical training and is due to complete her SPR training in 2013. She has a particular interest in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and has been involved in developing a number of courses in oncology. As part of her role as trainee representative for the Association of Cancer Physicians, she is actively involved in planning and coordinating the annual trainee weekend, which provides an opportunity for registrars in Medical Oncology to meet and enjoy presentations on a broad range of topics, given by leading experts in their field. Dr Payne continues to build on her involvement in teaching and the field of medical education and aims to make this a substantive part of her future consultant career.
