Alexandru Eniu

Cancer Institute “Ion Chiricuta”, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Dr. Eniu is a senior medical oncologist at the department of breast tumours at the Cancer Institute  "Ion Chiricuta" in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he is also the head of the day hospital unit.

He graduated in medical oncology in 1999 and in 2007, obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of Medicine “Iuliu Hatieganu” in Cluj-Napoca.

Dr. Eniu has extensive experience from visits abroad, through being awarded several scholarships.  He has also been a visiting clinician in the USA, at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and he was awarded a Mayo Foundation Visiting Clinician Scholarship at the Mayo Breast Cancer Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He did a fellowship at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, and during his training, he also spent some time as visiting researcher in the Netherlands and Spain.

As an active member of both national (SRRO) and international (ESMO and ASCO) societies, Alexandru Eniu holds positions in various committees. He serves as the National Representative at ESMO for Romania; currently, he is the chair of the ESMO Emerging Countries Committee and, since 2014, he was invited to join the ESMO Executive Board. He is also a member of the ASCO International Affairs Committee. Furthermore, he is a member of the editorial board of several oncology journals.

In addition to clinical practice devoted to the care of breast cancer patients, Alexandru Eniu has been involved in numerous international phase III and II clinical studies (over 70 in total) and has written 2 book chapters and 25 articles in international peer reviewed journals. In addition he has delivered numerous talks in Europe and the USA at conferences on his specialty, breast cancer.
