Prof Jean-Pierre Bourquin - University Children's Hospital Zurich, Switzerland

Prof Bourquin talks to ecancer at EHA 2012, Amsterdam about studying the processes between leukaemia cells and the surrounding bone marrow using mouse models.

This is carried out by modulating the expression of genes in the stromal layer to establish which genes affect survival of the leukaemia cells.

Prof Bourquin's team use functional genomic screens to carry out a top down approach looking at sub-types of the disease.

The team also use proteomics to establish certain proteins that are uniquely identifiable on the leukaemia cells, giving the potential to improve diagnostics.
