In the first of this three part roundtable discussion on the highlights of the Patient Advocacy/Ethics Track at The European Multidisciplinary Cancer Congress in Stockholm, 23-27 September 2011, members of the ECCO Patient Advisory Committee discuss the first-ever session dedicated specifically to rare cancers and the unique set of challenges rare cancers pose for all those involved. The panellists explain how this session will provide patient advocates and professionals with the opportunity to enter into a lively debate about the best ways of tackling rare cancers, which accounts for more than 20% of cancer cases and affects 2.7 million people across Europe. The panel also discusses cancer in men and the particular issues surrounding this group.
